Swing arm bolt stuck

Forums

Hi all just stripping frame and swing arm of 10coats of paint ,but swing arm bolt won't shift is it ok to heat to loosen up ?

Which model? If it's a featherbed it's probably seized into the silentbloc bushes. These can be a real pain to remove and people end up hacksawing through the spindle......

Hi ya ian ,yes a feather bed ,sounds like very hard sawing for half hour, are the Bush's plastic,

They are a metalastic consruction. Normally almost indestructible in use and imposible to remove without destroying them. I would work round them .

Cheers for reply Robert it's not possible to leave in ,I would rather it destroyed (can buy new I've seen) I was thinking of not using norton swing arm and wheels but longer alloy box section, upside down forks ,supermoto wheels, straight threw p11 exhaust pipes (I have a vision) might not work but I'm young dumb and fulla .com

An emery cut-off wheel will go through the spindle quickly, about 2 minutes per side. Then you have to spring the frame apart about .060" with a jack and manouver the swingarm out. The frame will spring right back. You then put the swingarm on the barbecue for an hour or so to burn out the rubber. My frame has the bolted in cross-member for the upper g/box mount not the welded-in one so more flexible.
