My 1960 Slimline 99C Dominator is fitted with chromed mudguards which I need to get re-chromed.
I have recently seen a photograph of a 650ss which appears to be fitted with stainless mudguards from a MkIII Commando.
Although not original fitment for a Dominator, they look good on the bike and would offer an extremely practical solution.
I have attached the photo which I have borrowed from the Wikipedia site. I'm pretty sure the front is off a MkIII, but not sure if the rear one is off a Commando.
Any ideas

I don't know either, never having owned a Mk3 â my Commando is a Mk2A â but I don't see anything to suggest that the rear mudguard isn't a Commando item. FWIW, a quick look indicates that AN lists the same stainless rear mudguard from 1974 onwards, but stainless items are available for earlier models too.

Your forks will be closer together than Commando. So the front won't fit. And if your tinware is original it's worth keeping. If it's too expensive to buy new replacement s ( because nobody makes them), surely they must be worth preservingll

them mudguards look ok.
i fitted some stainless steel commando mudguards to my then 19s mongrel cafe racer. cant remember what model they would have fitted. anyway i fitted the front one ok. but on fitting the rear one i couldn't work out why it looked funny. it looked as though the frame was twisted looking at the bike from the rear .in the end i took it off and found out that the central domed part of the mudguard started in the middle at the front of the guard and then it twisted its way around to one side at the rear and not central . so i replaced it and all ok. worth noteing if you are going to fit some.

Part of my looking into this possibility is because my present chrome guards are originals, albeit the chrome is lifting on both. I do intend to get them chromed.
The possibility of fitting stainless Commando guards would allow me to put the chrome originals away for safe-keeping.
Actually I think the 650SS in the photo shown above look really good and the fact that some might say they're not original would not bother me in the least.
Incidentally does anyone recognize or know the 650SS in the photo which is supposed to be at the Vale Royal Classic Car Show in 2013?

I recently fitted a set of stainless commando mudguards to a 650 mercury that had been butchered. Relatively straightforward fitting. I had to drill some holes in the rear guard for the dzuz fastener and the holding brackets. I think the Mercury came originally with early commando mudguards.
