Tyres on 961

I am almost too scared to ask, but I may need some new tyres soon, I have

Almost worn the rear one out. Any one tried anything different to the

dunlops? I am an avon tyre fan. Should they wear tyres out? (Joke)

Hi Clive

After 3000 miles with the Dunlop ones I did putBridgestone Battlax S20 Hypersport tyres and am very happy with them... Soon I need to look for new ones againsmiley

Hello Clive,

I have fitted Bridgestone S20s as well - so far so good. The Dunlops had both had their day after 3000 miles.

I found the Dunlops started to affect the steering after about 2000 miles, it became increasingly "heavy". Anyone else experienced this? Is it a "Cafe Racer thing" or does it affect the sport as well?

Raphael - have you stayed with the factory recommended tire pressures?

Hi Dave,

Yes I stayed with the factory recommendations.

Do you see a reason to use other pressures?

The Bridgestones seem to keep a bit more than the 3000 miles. But since I changed from the Dunlop tyres my way to work changed as well and is (unfortunately) less curvy now...

Hi Raphael,

No, I don't see a reason -justcurious. I ran the Dunlops at 36/42psi for a while when the steering started to get heavy. Initially there was a slight improvement but I went back to 34/38 . All my other bikes I have run at 36/42 after changing the OE tyres.

Hi Dave Ralph and all,

What I found out is anything less than 34psi in the frontand 38psi on the back is asking for trouble.I had well under 34 in the front the other day and the handling was all over the place. The other thing I found out was that normal tyre inflaterlance type fittings just don't work on the Norton. You need a flexible or 90 degree fitting to blow your tyres up. This is quite important to note! if you are going on a long journey take the right bit of kit with you. It caused me to be late at Norton for my service last week.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the tip I'd never even thought that I might need to blow the tyres up other than at home!

I completely agree with you regarding 34/38 being "minimum" pressures.

Hello All I noticed the same issue with valves on my Ducati and when I had the tyres changed had 90 deg valve stems fitted and will do the same when I change tyres on the Norton. hope this is of use

Anyone fitted the Bridgestone S20 Evo's yet? I've got S20's on at the moment and if I'm lucky they might see 3000 miles, they've done 2500 already so it's time to think of a replacement. If the Evo's give more mileage they might be worth the extra - not that I would expect that much more as they are still a soft compound. Otherwise I'll be sticking to the S20's.

After 2000 miles my front end felt heavy. Changed tyres to michelin pilot 3 & now feels like a new bike.
