Hi all.
I bought some nice rubbers to stick on my slimline tank from Andover Norton. It would have been nice if they were peel and stick but they are not. So, I went and bought some Gorilla Contact adhesive, I followed the instructions but the adhesive stuck to the chrome tank panels but not the rubbers. After much scratching with a squared off finger nail I have managed to remove all the adhesive from the chrome panels now and they are back to being shiny.
Has anyone got any glue recommendations for sticking these on?

Mold release.
The rubber will have a coating of mold release from the manufacturing process. Give 'em a good rub with white spirit. Worked for me on my wideline single.

Thanks Duncan. A good tip. It seemed that the glue I used completely failed to take to the rubber. That sounds like it could be the reason why

Clear silicone RTV worked for me….
....after cleaning the back of the rubber with solvent.
The advantage is that the rubbers and silicone can be removed later without damage to the paint (in my case).

Tank rubbers
I used double sided tape Everbuild mammoth. They have been on about 6 months now and still looking good. Also cleaned rubbers with cellulose thinners.

After cleaning with white spirit, I seem now to have stuck them down successfully with the Gorilla contact adhesive I bought. I have been out on it all day on a VMCC run in pretty steady drizzle and they are still there!

Meths degreaser
Your finest drinking Meths is one of the best cleaners/degreasers as it doesn't leave a residue. White Spirit isn't much good. Old-fashioned Evo-Stik contact adhesive works well. As when you repair a puncture on an inner tube - abrade the surface of the rubber, as Geoffrey Beacham suggests.

I used a contact adhesive recommended for shoe repair. Can't tell you the name as it's in Han script. Well known Chinese on line supplier...
