Greetings!
OK - after my recent test rides went OK (until one of the spark leads jumped off the coil that is) I decided I badly needed a side stand to compensate for the knackered centre stand. So I have fitted the RGM side stand to the bike and that seemed to go OK. Far too hot to be riding anyway!
All the parts that needed removing to fit the side stand, chain case, clutch, rotor etc have all gone back together with no issues and no interference. No bending of the case was noted. Everything spins as it should.
All was looking good until it comes to tightening up the cases. As I tighten up the chain case centre nut the tube jumps out of the lugs in the engine plate. I did have sone issues with this previously but with the help of some mole grips was able to hold the tube in place. There is nothing I can do right now to tighten the nut and if the tube won't stay in the lugs then the footrest will also spin.
I have no idea if the tube on the bike is the correct part and it certainly doesn't look like the part on the AN website - FOOTREST TUBE SERRATED END LH (NM20936) or Part number 06.7778.
Any ideas or brilliant fixes other than stripping it all back and getting a new tube?
Cheers

Panic over I think
I had the offending tube out and it is the same as per the AN website. I had a closer look and fitted a fibre washer and a very thin shim in-between the case and the flange of the tube. Result. The tube engages and is 'trapped' in the correct place. I'm waiting for another tube of JB weld sealant before reassembly. The ironic thing is it was working just fine before I fitted the side stand. I take on board the comments about over tightening the cover. Thanks

If the chain-case has been over tightened in the past then it gets bent in towards the engine plates. The next 'bending' can be to knock the bent case out towards the right place but this is hard to ascertain. BUT the footrest the tube should be the right one, if that is in its right place on the engine plates then the outer case is pushed up to it to locate the big chrome nut. If because the nut can't locate on the chain case then the chain case is bowed out too far.
On the other hand if by some odd situation you do have a 'short' tube then can some one on hear measure the distance between the rear of the inner chain case and the engine plate? Of course it could be the inner chain case is bent away from the engine plate, but a measure as above should clarify that point.
Thought-If you loosely fit the footrest rod this will show you the correct position for said footrests and will only work if the tube is sitting in the engine plate, tightening the chrome nut/outer chain case has to be accomplished and in effect will show the proper place the outer chain cas should be.
Have fun.
