badge on crankcase

Forums

The badge in crankcase on my '53 Dommie loose all painting and time to swap with new one.
How is the best way to remove the old one to avoid any damage?

I've never done it, but as I recall it has brass rivets, so you could either carefully chisel the heads off with a sharp cold-chisel, or drill them out with a 1/16" drill.

The badges on the steel shrouds for Roadholder forks have hardened steel helical drive pins...like the ones used on the rear wheel cover plate.  Good luck if you try to drill those...

I have done it previously. Tear the badge away so that you have a gap between the rivet head and crankcase, apply liberal heat and you may be able to grip the head with pliers or prise out with a screwdriver either side. If not, cut a slot in a steel bar, wider than the shank and smaller than the head, file a bevel on the end and use to drive the rivet out. Just be gentle as if you lose the head, you will have to embark on further adventures.

I attempted (unsuccessfully) to remove the two rivets by pulling them out, but they broke in the attempt. At this point I used the Dremel to create the centre/opening to use a 2mm bit and restore in fully the hole.
Once the hole was re-created, it was simple to reinsert the rivets.
A funny thing, during the operation one of the two rivets fell off and I couldn't find it again!
(how is it possible that there are only two pieces in the package?). Solved with two brass nails of the same size and a drop of glue.
