Petseal remover

I have a Jubilee tank which was lined with Petseal a number of ago and not used since.

I now want to use the tank. There is a number of kits on the market that will remove the old Petseal liner and reline the tank. Has anyone had any experience of these kits. Would like to go with a kit, dont fancy knocking some chemical solution together.

Thanks

John.

Greetings, used POR 15 products for years; Commando tank was coated in 2009, no issues since. Recently had to remove an old (unknown) liner from 650 SS tank. Bought the POR-15 strip & liner kit; works like a champ. Once all the old crap was out and tank had been prepared for the liner, the tank has to be 100% completely dry. Be careful & take your time for the liner to be successful .

Stripper will take anything off, so be careful!

I have a chromed and painted tank in which the liner has failed. Likewise, the tank has never been used since being restored. The problem with removing the old is that it will take the paint off. I can't see any way of avoiding it, which so far has prevented the job from being done.

I have used this company’s products to remove the old petseal which was not ethanol proof.

After plugging the tap holes and protecting the whole tank.Carefully pouring the product in the tank, sealed with a piece of polythene and original cap. Left overnight and next day shook out the result which is like cornflakes. I would recommend it but extreme care must be taken. Link to product below.

Thanks for your replys. Paul, Ive sent a email to Tank care products late yesterday. Dont know if I need the full kit as I only need to remove the old Petseal and reseal. See what their email says tomorrow.

Thanks

John.

No wishing to promote or endorse anyones specific product, but you can just purchase the 'POR strip' on its own, don't have to buy the whole  'kit',

Keep us posted on your results & good luck anyway.

Many thanks to Steve & Paul. My fear is the fumes alone from the stripper can remove the paint. Having poured it in, one would have to move quickly to seal the cap, I imagine.

Once it has done it's work on the old liner, does it come out in liquid form, or dry?

We shall have to compare notes on how we get on, John!

Cheers

Once you have poured the chemical into the tank I used a piece of polythene bag and used the original cap to make a perfect seal. Make sure though that the polythene or plastic bag does not sag over the outside of the tank. I just screwed it up and put a elastic band around it. The chemical desolves the old petseal and then coverts it into a type of dry cornflakes which you just shake out of the tank.
