Best Boyer for Commando

Forums

Hi All!

Wich one is the best electronic ignition (among Boyer products) for Commando 750: Micro Mk IV (analog.), Micro-Digital (digital) or Micro-Power (digital with new digital coil). I?m not hunting the cheepest, but alwaysthe most expensive is not necessarilythe best. The system I will choose, should maybe in future work also with (Norvil?) electric start.

I had a Pazon system which worked well. It was supposed to be better at low voltages but the Boyer may have been modified to negate that by now.

I've just replaced a Mark 3 Boyer Bransdon on my 1968 Commando with a Pazon. I have retained the original coil set up and have found that starting has improved but with no noticeable difference in running.

I fitted a Pazonunit to my 650ss and had nothing but trouble! Kept cutting out & leaving me stuck at the roadside, despite replacement stator plate etc. Went back to Boyer Micro-Digital & have run sweet this last 2 years

OK. If Pazon is the Best, which model should I choose: Smart Fire (digital) or Sure Fire (analog)?

There are three Boyer units to choose from, in terms of everyday performance I doubt if you would see any difference. The MkIII Boyer is well 'dead' in the water as far as a new product. We have the MKIV which gets rid of a timing scatter aggravated by low/flat batteries. The Pazon is indeed better made by previous persons who worked for Mr Bransden so they should produce a better kit. But is it worth the extra cost? only you can decide. Again the Smart fire will be a better system but I doubt you will see the benefits unless you are very discerning.

Hope this helps. Al Osborn.

I have been using a boyer for 15 years with no problems, I check the wiring every now and then for chaffing and rubbing and to ensure it has not become trapped or damaged by road debris. I would buy Boyer again. The electric start will require a battery with substantial cranking amps. The better quality lead acid batteries for the MKIII ( also used on other makes ) now have massive cranking power compared the original battery, but I do not know if it will fit the 750 battery tray.

No matter which system you chose make sure the wiring is in good condition with tip top earth connections. A dodgy earth will destroy any of the systems.
