I've got an aluminium alloy brake anchor plate that's got a slight (6mm) bend in its outer edge, it looks like something on the inside of the brake drum has tried to escape to the outside judging by the score marks on the inner face. The bent area doesn't affect the brake shoe pivot points and the whole piece could probably be used as it is but I would like, if possible to straighten it. Any thoughts on the method (and the likely outcome) would be appreciated.

Look on the internet, there is a good example on U Tube. It requires Patience, soap and a blow touch. Also a gental touch and not a ham fisted approach and not to be rushed.

To my big surprice I've managed to straighten a gearshift lever on an endurobike a month ago, using the classical method. First soot it with acetylene only. Then add oxygen to a normal flame on the welding torch. Heat until soot disappears. Then gently straighten it. I think it can be repeated if the bend is severe.

All know is how easy it is to bend alloy brake and clutch levers when you fall off, but they always break at any attempt to straighten them!
