please advise oil to use in engine c/case g/box kevin thanks

Always a subjective subject, no matter which make or forum. In my other 50's/60's bikes I use Castrol GP50 in the engine and gearbox and nothing in the primary case, except a sparing squirt of chain lube occasionally. I'll do the same in my recently purchased 99. Mind you, I don't do high milages and I don't do cold winter days!

hello Do-not use GP50 As it is caster oil based and will dry out ,the best oil is a 20/50 Millers or Morrses and EP80 for you gearbox and the primary chaincase ATF Automatic trainsmisson fluid

That what I have used in my Norton Manxman 650 in the lasts three years and No worries ??

There you go. Told you it was subjective. I've Never had a problem with GP50! The 'best' oil is always someones opinion. There's no 'best' oil, only bad ones.

Back in thelate 1960s and early 1970s I used Duckhams 20/50 in my 1959 Dommie 99 as it was then the"latest thing"! We had never heard the term "Classic Bike" then and, of course, the sales blurb for all oils was that theirs worked perfectly; your bike would go faster, you'd pull more birds and you'd never suffer that "certain limpness" ever again! It wasn't quite all true - sadly! The bikenever seemed to suffer any problems, even at an indicated speed of 115mph on 200 mile runs! (Yeah - ambitious speedo!) It was a touch underchoked as it only had 1 Monobloc then, as compared to the ex-factory twin carbs with the large inlet head and H/C pistons. Still, when I've put it all back together again it will fly I'm sure!

Cheers, Lionel
