Hi Anna, this is just what I and other owners have been trying to tell you all along! It's a shame you did not visit the factory a year or more ago like me any many other have done before making adverse comments. However I am pleased that you are now in favour of what they are doing, a 961 would look good in your garage alongside your Manxman!

BTW Ive had mine up to an indicated 130mph so it would almost keep up with yourManxman if you fancy a ride out!

Good on you Anna! Nice to read favourable reports on the 961. Judging from looks alone I definitely want one, so your report on the engineering just confirms it!

Hi Anna, good to hear you have been converted! I have a couple of Commando's also and the 961 gets just as much attention when I arrive at meetings(which I never get with any other of my modern bikes) The old and new Commando's are all fantastic to ride but the 961 feels a bit more like a Ducati Monster than a classic and even sounds a bit like it. I have not seen a 961 in blue yet but i bet it would look good in matching Manxman colours and as you know they will make them in any colour you want.

Hello All I am a new member as of today so please be gentle with me. I am writing to pass on some info concerning the new 961 of which I am a new owner of a cafe racer, in silver, and now covered over 1000 miles and gone through some of the experiences listed within this forum upon delivery dates etc,Now I have her at home I can only sing praises onwhat I consider the most prettiest looking bike on the road at the moment, it goes just as good as it looks and where ever I park up get asked all and sundry of various questions about her and all the stories one as heard and read about. My first service was done and bike checked for mods that were required, new noisy pipes fitted, standard ones far to quiet for my liking, Found out by questioning the the lads that the bike must be filled with oil to the bottom mark on the dip stick, 2.5 litres approx including filter change, checked after running the bike, or it will deposit access in the air box,.There is some noise from the primary side but no louder than my Ducati clutch on my S4 Monster,. For the Gentleman who wasinquiring about paddock stands I purchased a pair of Harris Stands, from ebay, hook type, and a pair of bobbins M6 thread to suit swing arm fitting, if your bike has long pipes like mine it is advisable to remove these when on the road as they could foul on the silencers. I can only pass on my experiences but for those who have or considering what to do concerning delays stick with it, the wait is worth all theuncertainty, grief, frustration.

Hello John and all Nocers Why Does every one say I have seen the Light or I have Been converted ? I had have not said anything un-toward the 961 other than its not all british and nor is My manxman, Now its got a zzr600 sidestand on it ,yes a nice chrome one too,sod paying £100 or so for a sidestand ,well what is british in our days anyway, even the kids think that Honda made in the UK ,Anyway its only the forkes and brake callipers and shocks and pistons witch are Subaru impretza blanks then sorted out in the factory, but so what it all works, like my side stand, But every thing else is made local? I wonder how meany classic parts are made in this country , lots of classic bike parts are made in india . or in other commonwealth countrys , And I Did not dismiss the 961 ether ,I wanted too see the shape end and how they where built , before I made my mind up , so I have Not been converted or seen the light ,I have had Norton motorcycles from 250cc up too 650cc for 43 years now and in 1973 I nearly had a new commando 850 but there must of not set the back end up right as on the test ride it was like having two wheel steering ,so I give it a miss then 3 years ago ,I had a test ride on my friend 850 it was very good ,and handeled well ,but a bit too high compression for me , it was like kicking over two ES2s at the same time, my 650 is nice starter she goes first kick , theres a very good Competition magneto on it ,and bosch W7DTC spark plugs in it ?And maybe next year, I will get a test ride on the new Featherbed model that Stuart was on about , yours. Hi Paul - I was interested in your comment "Found out by questioning the the lads that the bike must be filled with oil to the bottom mark on the dip stick, 2.5 litres approx including filter change, checked after running the bike, or it will deposit access in the air box " - I thought that this type of error disappeared with the original Commando - it's nice that they keep on with the tradition !!! - seriously though I assume that they'll correct this issue as it implies poor design.

Hi Mark, I have a 961 and have not had a problem with this, I always run the bike for a few mins first before checking the oil level and fill it to the Top mark on the dipstick(although to be honest it does not seem to use much if any oil between services) This is what the handbook says and what the Technician who did the first service told me. I have done just over 3,000 miles and not had any problems with oil in the airbox and as i said although I check the level every week it does not seem to use much. The main thing is to run the engine first before checking the level on the dipstick as it is positioned at the highest point of the frame by the headstock and needs to circulate. I have used the bike hard cruising on Motorways around 90mph and it will easily do 130mph but still does not useany oil plus the oil always looks quite clean compared to my modern bikes.

I've had the problem of oildripping out of the airbox drain pipe, so I did the same fix that Triumph used on early models of putting a plug in the end of the drain pipe and was emptied at service time.Icheck it every200 miles or so (only a couple of drips) I told them of this mid November when it went in for is last service and mechanicsaid that they now also plug off the pipe and then Marc Fisher said only fill the oil tank up to the lower mark, ( not that I've ever had to put any oil in it) inbetween services. Hope this information is of use to you, sorry it's several weeks late but I've only just joined the club.
