Low... something error message

Hello all,

I own for a few monthes a second hand 2010 Norton Commando 961 CafÃ? Racer that had a lot of problems.

The last I faced raised after a LED blinkers installation (problems occured and the flasher has been changed).

Since this installation, the motorbike's board shows a "LOW 6.4" (6.4 is a value that can change) and the motorbike fails to start, even with a fully charged battery.

Started seems to be OK as the engine is running but the bike doesn't start.

I guess the problem comes from the ECU. What's your opinion ?

Sorry for my poor froggy's english ;)

I would suspect the battery is no good, the battery on mine started playing up after about a year and unless they are delivering their full capacity the engine will turn over fairly happily but will not fire due to the voltage drop. Unfortunately it is a tiny battery for a big 2 cylinder engine and they are also very expensive and awkward to get at being under the tank.

Hope you solve it ok.

Hi Colin and thanks for your reply,

I have tested the battery and it seems to be OK. I have even tested with another (smaller battery - 10S) and I have the same problem.

I do agree with you concerning the battery's location. Hopefully, I have an adapter underneath the seat which enables me to charge the battery quite easily.

Fortunately, this is winter time ;)

Hello I had a very simalar problem on a fuel injected Moto Guzzi, engine would turn over but would fire very spasmodic, or would fine for a while then start to misfire and run very lumpy, found out that the battery has to be in tip top condition or problems occur simalar to yours, I now keep all my bikes on accumate chargers so batteries are being conditioned at all times and since have had no issues at all Hope this is of use.

Hi,

I finally figured out the problem cleaning up the sparks, the air filter and removing the 3 poles flasher.

I am afraid using a 3 poles flasher is wrong with this bike, the neutral connection was probably taking my battery down.

I now have to find a 2 poles flasher for my LED blinkers.

Paul thanks for your advice, I will maintain my battery with a maintenance charger during the WE.

Hi Pierre-oliver

Why don't you get in touch with the factory? I have not got any first hand experience, as my new bike is not due until the middle of next year, but every owner I have spoken to says that the after sales service is really good.

I did go to the factory earlier on this year, and everyone was very friendly and open - I'm sure that as an owner, they would want tohelp sort out any problems you have.

Regards

Roger.

Hello Roger, Paul,

Thanks for your advices.

I usually call Egli Racing 's team in Switzerland and they have been one more time very helpful.

I will call Norton in the afternoon to negociate a one year warranty extension as the bike's warranty expires in April 2013.

Merry Christmas to both of you.
