961 Domiracer on the road

There was a Domiracer at Jack's Hill Cafe Bike Night last Friday. It's good to see these bikes are being ridden rather than being on display in someone's collection. As you can imagine it got lots of attention especially when it was started up, it sounded amazing but well loud!! I don't expect that the police would be impressed. I wasn't sure about the rear numberplate fixing though, the owner said he was looking at a changingto a more conventional type.

The numberplate holder is awful (in my opinion) and spoils the bike completely, looks like it's fallen off a BMW GS or something. With those pipes I don't think he will have to worry too much about having a legal solution to the numberplate/light holder. Like John has said it's good that it's being used for the purpose it was made for.

Now that's what a cafe racer should look like (except for the number plate). It definitely captures the spirit of the sixties - a motorcycle for a real hooligan. Loud megas were a compulsory safety factor- so old ladies could hear you coming.

It just looks like it's just fallen off let alone fallen off something. Nice bike, I'd love one but I'd have to sort that number plate out before I even took it out of the garage never mind ride it where it could be seen. I'd love to have a thrash around on as it totally matches my lid.

Yeh I think they fit that number plate at the factory so that it meets legal requirements. The owner said he didn't like it but wanted to use it on the road ASAP so he has already got a local bike specialist to make an underseat plate mount.

BTW the bike is supplied with the standard 961road legal silencers fitted. The ones in the picture are supplied also for optional fitment.

At a British Bike day at CMC at Clay Cross Derbyshire on Sunday, a roadgoing Domiracer turned up, N03. David the owner said that he had had it a month and done 800 miles on it. When he spoke to the factory they said that they had built 16 to date and 8 were on the road.Fabulous bike but to small for someone 6ft 4".

Unfortunately there are such people!

I really don't think anyone would be stupid enough to pay that sort of money for one though! I thought that the original price from the factory was a bit much especially as the motor is exactly the same as my 961 Sport.

One would hope not, but to quote Einstein

Totally agree and to be quite honest it does nothing for me at all,the back end looks like a Friday late afternoon design job,, oh god we forgot weve got to fit a light and number plate ! Still beauty is in the eye of the beholder / owner.

At a recent Bike Night at the Norton factory I spotted a new Domiracer fitted with the "road legal" exhaust and number plate holder. The bike is also supplied with the much sexier megaphone exhaust which the customer can then fit.

Just shows how much the exhaust changes the view of the bike.

Hi Nick, I took delivery of my Domiracer # 27 at the end of July, 1st mod was to fit a new tail tidy which a mate made out of alloy sheet, it looks the part and keeps with the cafe racer look. She's back up to Norton on Friday for the loud pipes to be fitted and 1st 500 mile service....

i absolutley love the bike, I've ridden a real range over the years from Harley's, Bonnys and street triples etc.... As I'm getting a bit older the Domi ticks all the boxes for me, she draws a crowd were ever I go and I ride her as often as I can but not in the WET:)

i was extremely lucky to actually get hold of one as initially I was after a Cafe Racer, I registered my interest with Sean (SalesManager) in May this year, he informed me that the waiting list was circa 9 mths but if I had the funds and prepared to pay up front would I be interested in taking a cancelled Domi order!!!! I took an hour to decide and the bike was delivered approx 35 days later- I can hear "you lucky ******* !!!" Ringing in my ears already..... Anyway that's were the great customer service ended... Whilst I am prepared to support the revival of Norton and think the bike is awesome, they don't make you feel very special when you consider the exclusivity and price of the bike.... I could go on and list the issues but I'd rather spend the time riding her and enjoying the massive grin I have on my face every time I look in the garage :) cheers Tony

I've replaced the rear number plate mount on mine and currently converting to single dial. Making a spacer plate though so I can retain steering lock and ignition key
