camshaft identification

Forums

I'm trying to identify a camshaft that came out of my 1974 - 850, serial number 312723.

The bike was purchased well used so no history available.

The cam has a T stampedin the side ofthe last lobe.

Also it's not very pretty under 4x magnification, has small dings and a ruddy look. shoulders slightly rounded,it is, however, smooth... cant decide on whether to replace it or not.

thanks

Hi, I have previously spoken to Norman White about cam marks, and from what I recall letters refer to factorys where they were being made at the time, and therefore a date. I suspect that this is a standard one, but give Norman a call or e'mail him. If you are going to go for a new one, fit a PW3, its not hairy, it just makes the whole plot more pleasant and easy to ride ! Cheers

Just installed a PW3 and gave theengine a 20min high idle (2500) run to break in the cam and new tappets. Sounds different and so crisp. Can't wait to ride it to compare with the old 2S it used to run 7 years ago.......I miss the surge that it gave at 4k and even though it wasn't a proper 2S (timing didn't match specs) it pushed me back on the seat. Just hoping I won't be disappointed since I've been told the PW doesn't have that 'coming on cam' feel.
