recently bought a plug for the 68 Atlas . both the large thread and hexagon appear different to the Dommy ones . AF ? What spanner size?

Depends on what Hexagonal bar the manufacturer used to machine the plug from. Or they could have machined the hexagon itself onto round bar. The hexagon won't necessarily match what has gone before. Measure the AF dimension and get a spanner to suit.

Thats helpfull. I think what i should have asked is, did the hex or thread change over the years?. I know the hex is different for the Commando . Just hope the thread stayed the same or i am boogered !.

Hello Bob - HNY . I don't think Norton ever fitted a magnetic sump plug but i stand to be corrected. A 68 Atlas should be the same as a 68 Mercury for which I use the same open-ended spanner that I use to adjust the steering head bearings. I'll measure it for you later. Cheers, Howard
