Depends on what Hexagonal…
Depends on what Hexagonal bar the manufacturer used to machine the plug from. Or they could have machined the hexagon itself onto round bar. The hexagon won't necessarily match what has gone before. Measure the AF dimension and get a spanner to suit.

The Dommie hex is 1.5 inch - just measured it. The thread type did stay the same on my 1969 750 Commanado but the hex was smaller. Cheers, howard

This is for my sons bike, on my Dommy i was incensed to recieve a magnet plug that none of my tools would fit !. The bench grinder soon sorted out the hexagons to match the tools i have carried for 30 years. The PR 650 i am building has metric studs and nuts holding the tank on . YUK !.

Magnetic Attraction
A strong magnet stuck on the inside near the bottom of the oil tank will do a similar job to a sump plug with a magnet attached to it. An oil filter in the return system will also help keep the oil clean of rogue steel and iron particles. Bigger chunks of metal will most likely get caught in the sump plug filter..

Hi Phil, my tank must have half a dozen magnets in it ! . I used to find a furry coat of filings on the sump one for some years after the motor was re-built . For many years now , nothing at all. It could be that the bore and cam chain have done running in ,or possibly the oils have also improved immesurably . Dont think my very iffy worn crank would have lasted this long with the old oils. Have you found another source for the 15/60 ? fully synth oil yet?.

Hello Bob - HNY . I don't think Norton ever fitted a magnetic sump plug but i stand to be corrected. A 68 Atlas should be the same as a 68 Mercury for which I use the same open-ended spanner that I use to adjust the steering head bearings. I'll measure it for you later. Cheers, Howard
