1957 Pre-Featherbed Model 50 - swinging arm

Forums

Please see photos. Is this the correct Swinging arm I bought with the frame etc? .The rear G/ box / mudguard bracket I bought via skip is the correct part but this swinging arm appears to be pushing the rear frame further apart. At the pivot Point the Swinging arm measures 6 1/8 " in my opinion the 1/8" too wide. The inside diameter at the rear fork measures just under 8"

Any ideas appreciated. I just hope it won't take another 8 years to get over this hurdle.

Hi it looks to tight a fit shouldn't the gearbox bracket fit inbetween the right hand side of the swing arm inside of the right frame mounting bracket there would be no gap to fit it looking at the photos.

That swinging arm looks identical to my 1956 99 swinging arm including chainguard tabs. Mine is also 8-1/8.

In your situation I would definitely modify it to fit. What is the alternative?

Thanks Gents,

I will check the inside dia at the rear fork with a F/bed but this one is only 6 1/8 at the front! (Joaothan) Not 8"

Correct Barry, it won't go because the SA is pushing the frame out.

I read your post wrong.

No worries, thanks for confirming. I also need to try and work out the spacer arrangements for my NOC centre stand. Seems too wide to me.

Also I find the stem on the bottom yoke is at an angle. Can this be right?

Tried to do the sealed bearing conversion but too narrow the centre for the stem. Will need to order 34 new balls! What a carry on.

Hi Jonathan,

The wheels were built long ago but I'm not sure about the long road holders. The stem on the bottom yoke is at an angle, not straight up. We were told that there were no sidecar long road holders! Hmmmmmm Might need to photographthem too.

The steeringbearing conversion won't work, due to the thickness of the stem so I'll be buying 34 new 5/16 balls. I think I have some good cups and cones.

I do hope the club Centre stand is correct, it was the only part for this machine they supplied! Will photo it with some measurements. I bought it for a 1957 pre featherbed Model 50 after all.

Will look for a beer crate to build the machine on. The centre stand is 8 1/4 ins at the pivot point all the way across. Will need some work to meet with the check points. Photo's on their way.
