Dominator 99 igition switch query

I have just purchased a Dominator, and not having had a bike for a few years this is a new world and I am pretty "green" !

Reading masses of notes on the Dominator I concluded that the ignition key switch on the headlamp has three positions, Ign 1,  Ign 2,  EMG.  I am not sure which sequence and layout they have, but I believe the positions are marked on the body of the switch.

My Dominator only seems to have two positions on it's switch, EMG and IGN, I have tried turning the key to the left but it does not turn, turn right and you can select just the two positions.

On the body of the switch there is a curved line marked with an arrow head at each end with EMG on the left end and IGN on the right  end, so I assume at rest all is switched off  then the two positions, for EMG first with the next position being IGN? Simple but  I just don't want to run with the EMG selected as I understand this is not recommended. The bike did not come with a handbook, and the downloded manual does not show such detail, or has someone fitted a different switch from the standard one!

EMG is Emergency. If the battery is flat, it disconnects the battery so the voltage from the alternator goes to the ignition. Otherwise, the alternator output would be soaked up by charging the flat battery.

If the system is still standard , you usually find the emg position  causes some uneven running ,probably from too much voltage .

The OFF is in the middle. IGN to the right EMG to the left. In EMG the rough running is brought about by part of the alternator being switched direct to the ignition coil. So running a DC coil on variable frequency AC is a prime reason for 'rough' running. Once the engine is running steady you go back to IGN.

If this is original then the bike is 6V and the switch is the 'all singing/dancing' PRS8.                         Bear in mind that conversion to 12V completely removes EMG. (or at least should be if done correctly)
