650 ss amal monoblock fuel level

hello please where is right fuel level in monoblocks on 650 ss ?

i have many thin washers under ticker body that makes level higher and i dont know if is it right:?

what diameter of main jets do you use ? in manual is 250-270.?

.. on the float chamber cover showing where the level should be. I made up a clear plastic tube fitted to an old bottom union as in the pic.float level

i write wrong that washers are under ticker body ,there are under float needle seating .

If I remember correctly, there should not be any washer under the float needle seat. Some Monoblocs have a dot  under the AMAL text indicating float level, some don't. Somebody else might have a definite answer.

There has been a recent change so for some there is now a washer, but its only in the last few years. Best to go to Amal's site to know if your mono is one affected if its a newish Mono.

Every new Monobloc Carburettor is built to provide a fuel level at a nominal setting utilising a fibre washer under the Float Needle Seating. For the majority of applications this nominal setting is perfectly acceptable. However for use with modern fuels tuned or modified engines alternative setting of the fuel level may be required to obtain the engine's optimum performance. This kit comprises of 4 aluminium shim washers of 0.15mm 0.25mm and two 0.5mm thicknesses. Replacing the fibre washer with a series of different combinations of these washers allows the user to vary the fuel level and thereby select their preferred setting.

yes this washers i have there it takes that fuel level is higher i will try it without washers.

I have original amal from 60 not new made.

You can cut a piece of acrylic to make a temporary cover to see inside. Make it well oversize so the fixing holes can be drilled easily.

... it's easier to make an adaptor for the bottom union (or pilot jet).

then it is easy to undo the union from both carbs and refit to left carb only with the link pipe bent up alongside the float chamber. Gently bending the pipe down, as soon as it starts to drip it will show you the fuel level without having to make or modify anything. If you are feeling rich, of course you can buy another banjo and fit clear pipe to it to make it a little easier.

As Ian says, the 'dot' on the cover is the official level, but just be careful that the cover is correct - there were different ones for left and right float chambers, and these will fit either carb, but the word 'Amal' won't be level. The fuel level in use should be just below the pilot jet.

If you have installed a new 'Stayup' float, be prepared for it to not work properly - on my bike the fuel level was way too high and I had to add a second gasket between carb and float cover.

My carbs now works perfectly. This is not an isolated case as many people have reported issues with these floats not working properly straight from the box.
