Neutral selection,upright gearbox

Forums

I have my  gearbox apart at the moment to deal with end float on the mainshaft and noticed that both the gear selector quadrant and the selector fork camplate have location indents for all four gears but nothing to locate neutral.. is this normal or do you just hunt for neutral by trail and error.TIA

Nobody picked this up. The circular cam plate should have five notches for the detent.  Four are pretty much equally spaced and the neutral is the fifth, midway between 1 and 2. All the suppliers list them.  RGM and no doubt others show clear illustrations on their web sites.

Thanks  for your  input, I  had the  gearbox  completely  stripped  today  and it seems like the  camplate  does have 5 indents, it's just the  foot change selector that only has  4 intents  and no positive  neutral  position

Yes...you do need to feel the detent between 1 and 2. Otherwise you couldn't make a rapid sequence of gear changes all the way up and down the box. It's obvious when you think about it...but not perhaps quite as obvious when playing with one on the bench.

OK I had not thought about it  in that way, lhad no gear indicator  until  now so hopefully  things  will  improve, with a dragging  clutch  finding  neutral  has always  been a  pain, just waiting  now for shims to deal  with the  endplay  on the  main  shift, then hopefully  back  riding  again
