Clutch thrust pad 042725

Just checked this - it’s the centre portion in the actuator, plate rotates around this pin & held in by a spring & split pin.

And this is t’other side

Can I ask a favour please?  What is the distance from the centre of the cable hole to the centre of the mechanism.

Sorry John, gearbox/engine is all together & sealed.  Next time I’m in there (?) I’ll try to measure the distances

Bruce, not a problem, I think I can make an accurate guess of the distance.

I want to fit one of theses 3 ball type mechanisms to my early type gearbox, I'll use a Triumph or Royal Enfield component.

Good luck with that - not sure how you’ll manage with the inner casting as they’re different early to late gearbox.  Mine was completely missing when I rebuilt the Jubilee and couldn’t get a complete assy or the “moving” part from anywhere.  I tried the Triumph actuator (photo, with holes in backplate) but found it the wrong size - even “marrying” up the moving part to the Jubilee backplate didn’t line up as the “ball” indents (photo for comparison) are spaced slightly differently!  eventually traced parts in the Jampot Club (Matchless/AJS) shop and got the correct(ish) AMC parts!

Once I had sorted out the clutch I found it to be nice to use.  Never the less I think this type of operating mechanism is better than the type in the "early" box so I am going to fit a 3 balls mech in the hope that it will be even better. 

It will need some work to fit but I think it doable.

I'll use the one in the attached photo, somewhat modified.  I will use the cable attachment, much better than just a nipple.  I might even re-route the cable, I think the cable could be shortened by a third.
