Jubilee Front Brake adjuster/mudguard bracket

Forums

Finally managed to obtain a pair of front mudguard stays for my Jubilee Deluxe, now I just have to fit the mudguard and the front brake adjuster  bracket !

My bike has brake on the RHS and round bottom forks, I have seen previous posts suggesting that I fit another mudguard bracket just for the brake adjuster, above the one supporting the mudguard.

I can see the reasoning behind this, but don't particularly like the look of it, so as I see it, my choices are to either go with the second bracket, or raise the mudguard to a height that enables the front brake to work properly with a bit of adjustment, not tried that yet as I suspect that wont look great either , as I don't like to see a mudguard high above the tyre.

My question is does anyone know the correct height of the bracket, I could start with that and  maybe able to work the brake adjuster issue around it, it is also possible that the new brake cable that came with the bike may not be correct one.

Any help and advice welcome.

Andy,

The front brake adjuster bracket is part of the right hand mudguard support clamp on the front fork slider and is welded to the clamp slightly to the front, so that it is in line with the brake operating arm. It's position is set when you adjust the mud guard height there is no separate clamp, hope this helps.

All the best

... as my Francis Barnett Cruiser. All a pretty horrible design if you ask me. I've fitted mine to give decent clearance to the front wheel then made the brake cable to suit.

Ian:

I agree its not a great design, and I believe I have come to the same conclusion, ie: make it look right and then address the brake cable. An additional bracket on the forks just for the brake adjuster looks ridiculous.

I found the second bracket is needed if you use the brake cable supplied by NOC shop. I could not take up the free play in the cable without using a second bracket below the mudguard brackets. Perhaps I was supplied with the wrong brake cable but the other one I purchased, again from NOC, had the wrong cable end for the hub lever, a clevis pin type. The mudguard is now set lower than in the picture.

Perhaps, with an original mudguard, the cable holder/mudguard bracket sits lower on the fork leg.

Sorry Andy,

Dennis's photo shows the brake cable at the rear of the fork leg on the right hand fork, this is correct, it is on the left on the later models late 1963 onwards I think. I have found that some cables are short so beware they vary.

This is on the left (65 Jub) and I had to get an AMC cable from Draganfly to get the correct part number and distancing - originally had it on the right but used the cable from NOC shop which fitted fine.“”

... I always make my own cables (using nylon lined materials from Venhill). Even if aftermarket cables are correct for original specification, different bars, levers etc mean getting cables that fit is a real trial.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to give me advice on the Mudguard brackets, I have settled on the " make the mudguard look right and sort the brake out later option"

Its actually worked out better than I expected, and I am happy with the outcome, I have been looking for the mudguard stays for months.

That's another job ticked off the list.

Thanks

Andy

That looks tidy and explains why the brake cable bracket is so low down on my bike. I had not realised that the original mudguards were so deep!
