1962 Dommie clutch plate conundrum

Forums

For the first time i noticed some clutch slip, definitely not the pushrod adjustment first thing i checked.up to now have used tqf in the case but last time i only had some Silkolene classic 20/50. Dismantled clutch and plates were quite dry and plenty of friction material although it looks very black and ‘cooked’ want to change for new plates but need to be sure i get right ones. My original service book shows friction on the clutch centre, then plain chainwheel, another friction, plain etc, total of 4 full friction and 4 plain, last one is then single sided friction. Pic shows friction plates with inner tangs, if you got this far please read on. My clutch has the tangs on the outside of the frictions and last plate is completely plain (inside tags like the others. I think there should be another single side friction as per the manual. Odd how the tangs on mine are reversed and I don’t see a single sided outside tang plate listed on spares sites. Was thinking of buying a full plate and chiselling off one side, chainwheel can easily accommodate this. Or am i better to buy all new friction and steel plate with opposite tangs to match the manual.sorry for long post but wanted to give clarity ( i hope)

cheers

The clutch changed in 1959.  Before that, the friction plates were splined on the outside to the drum and the drum contained friction pads.  After that the friction plates splined to the hub and the drum was plain inside.

Looks like i have a bit of a mongrel, going to bite the bullet and get back to 62 spec with internal tang frictions and external plain
