IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE: NORTON COMMANDO 961 SP/CR/CLASSIC

We are writing to inform you of an important safety recall affecting Norton Commando 961 SP/CR/Classic built between 7th June 2021 and 12th February 2025. This action is being taken as part of our commitment to your safety and to comply with UK safety regulations. Please be aware that this is a stop ride notification

What is the issue?
It has come to our attention that the starter ring gear may have been installed using a bonding agent thread locker that has failed to cure, leading to a potential failure of the starter ring gear assembly. This may lead to the vehicle coming to a sudden stop during operation.

What should you do?
We ask you to immediately stop using your motorcycle until it has been inspected and repaired if necessary. We will shortly commence communication with owners to schedule an appointment for a free collection and delivery, inspection and necessary repairs.

What will be done? The recall service will include removal, inspection and refitting of the ring gear retaining screws. We anticipate that the repair process will take approximately two hours to complete. This recall service will be at no cost to you. Need additional information? If you have any questions or concerns regarding this recall, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team below. Our team is available in usual UK business operating hours and will be happy to assist you. Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your prompt attention to this important matter.
Thank you for your cooperation.

This has been covered quite extensively on the Access Norton website , I would advise anyone with a 961 commando to join this website for all kinds of useful  information and help.

According to Facebook postings and Accessnorton, individual owners are being contacted if their bike needs to be returned to factory, and quite a few have already been collected. What is not clear yet is if those who DONT need a recall are being told that.
