Wideline tank rubbers

Forums

I would like to ask how the tank spacers was attached  by the factory: https://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/buy/featherbed-petrol-tank-frame-u-section-rubber_3062.htm

Mine are attached by adhesive tape and it doesn´t look satisfactory.

I don't know how they were originally fixed, but I intend to attach mine with a thin layer of clear RTV Silicone sealant. My T120 tank knee rubbers are attached in this way (as recommended in a restorer's book) and have been fine for over four years. They can be removed and replaced if necessary without damaging the paintwork.

The rubber (and frame) does need to be scrupulously clean before "glueing" - I used xylene paint thinners to clean mine.

Hope this helps.

Tank rubbers were normally attached with a contact adhesive like Evostik. It is rubberised so can be peeled off.  The same goes for the tanks rubbers.  I used to use insulation tape but nowadays we have Gaffa Tape, which can fix and mend absolutely everything on the planet!
