Atlas Gearbox Endfloat

Forums

Re. 1966 Altas.  Does anybody know the maximum endfloat of the gearbox mainshaft measured where the cluch centre hub attaches, there is no movement in the sleeve gear. I have approximately 65 thou which seems a lot to me.

Thanks in advance, Paul.

During the tear down of my 650ss/99 mongrel, I found the reason it had been put in a shed 30+ years ago; so soon after having the 99 engine installed, was that the main shaft bearing in the inner cover had collapsed. The clutch had at least 3mm movement side to side. Now the bearing has been replaced as part of a total refurb kit, the main shaft has no lateral movement at all.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for your help. The mainshaft bearing has disintegrated so I'm now stripping the box to see what else is wrong. So far not as bad a job as I had thought it might be.
