Jubilee Engine Case studs thread sizes

Forums

Afternoon all,

Can anyone tell me what thread the Jubilee engine case stud threads are - the loose front & rear studs with nuts at either end, Norton PN 21173 & 21174?

I was of the understanding that they were 3/8" BSYC, but after ordering some nuts of that spec, the diameter is wrong for the studs.

Many Thanks

I think that is because the nuts are a reduced size. They may be 5/16 BSYC sold in the NOC shop but someone may be able to confirm.

I belong to another forum and someone compiled a list of all the thread and nut sizes for one popular make and model and published it on the forum - really useful information. Given that information was for metric sizes the problem is much greater for the Jubilee where many threads and nut sizes are used. I have a box full of nuts and bolts ordered for my Jubilee that did not fit!

Perhaps, NOC shop could also list the length and thread for bolts and studs in addition to stating information such as:

Stud : Front engine fixing - Stainless

I am however, delighted and impressed by the NOC shop service, manned I know by volunteers.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for that, I'll get a few and test fit! This is my first project of this kind, so my stock of odds & ends needs increasing!!!

Hi Kieran,

Can't help with the thread sizes I'm afraid,  but your comment on odds and ends reminded me how I learned very early on in my Norton ownership of the need to buy a set of thread gauges, dig out my 'Zeus book' that I hadn't touched since I was an apprentice and, most importantly, never throw any nuts or bolts away.

Even if they are not good enough to reuse for their intended function, many were modified into 'thread clearing' taps and dies prior to reassembly.

Good luck,

George.
