pillion footrest rubbers slimline pre 64 flat type

Forums

The last two sets of rubbers bought appear to have been made with the  bore holes too small  causing them to split  in no time.  My current pair  have resisted all efforts to fit,  heating with hot water, lubricant ,big hammer etc.   The same part no covers both lightweights and  big twins. It seems I will have to bore out the rubber holes , anyone tried this ?, or had the same issue? footrests are orriginals.

I bought some from my local garage "Granville's of Swadlincote" a few year back that were apparently Jeff Hunter made.  They were hard but when soaked in boiling water and fitted with an air line to expand them they were fine.

Rubber 'aint rubber any more....

I am beginning to wonder if there are 2 sizes for these rubbers and I have been sent jubilee ones.   Does anyone have a jubillee  pillion rest they could measure the diameter for me?.Otherwise its off to the shed to add to my collection of  non fitting parts.

Robert prob best to hop over to the lightweight forum, I have some footrests for my jub and Navi but don’t think they are original.  In fact I know they are not as I bought them from someone else’s box of bits that don’t fit!!

I have bought a couple of sets over the past few years.  They have been far too tight, and start to split in less than two years.  For me, they are only cosmetic, as I never carry a passenger.  However, next time I will try drilling them out.

Before drilling out, place the rubbers in the freezer overnight.

This will let the drillbit bite and cut.
