As of 20.15 hrs 11/10/20 there are a pair of OK tank badges with 6 days to go on a popular auction site. Much less than the price suggested above.

There is also a good condition tank, stripped of paint, with good badges fitted on both sides.

Again less than the suggested price.

There is also a lightweight frame, which looks to me like an Electra 7" forks frame, which includes a petrol tank with both tank badges. This one is likely to be of interest to our Spanish members where it resides. Bit pricey but perhaps the vendor will sell the tank and badges separately.

Hope this helps the originator of the commissioning request.

A tedious route, but one that makes copies more easy to access, would be to make a mould suitable for GRP casting.  Obviously you would need an original to start with.

It would follow the normal method for making a mould from an original and tittivating it so that all of the blowholes and blemishes are removed.

The finished casting can be painted with conductive paint and plated.  (Conductive paint is what many of us use for their routed pickup pockets on their guitars!)  Replica Chrome plating is pretty good.

A GRP or plastic part is an interesting way to go. If you sand cast it in aluminium or brass there would be some shrinkage as the metal cooled.

Might it be worth considering injection moulding?   Minimum finishing required and if made in ABS the badge can be chrome plated.

The problem may be the cost of the mould.  Might be worth considering 3D printing for the mould, I'm told it reduces the tooling cost considerably for very small batches.

3D printing of the tank badges would be possible but someone needs to generate a .STL file. Any offers?

I do have a surprisingly good drawing of the styling strip, it looks a very complicated drawing but if anyone want to try turning it into a 3D printable format, then let me know.
