hi i am refurbing my 16h & have found an emblem painted in cream on the rear of the back mudguard, picture atatched, can anyone tell me what it stands for, i would be very pleased to know what it means hopefully pete
Signwriter's white of the 1940s was quite an off-white colour when compared with the brilliant whites that we see today. Would you describe the cross as a Saltire ?
The only wartime example that I can think of though is 52nd (Lowland) Division who used a blue shield background.
A photo might help.
hi im afraid i have no pictures,i lost the pictures from my phone, but it looks like a saltire the background was just rust, so no other colour, the only paint was on the back of the oil tank, which is brown, if you can advise where i can research military emblems i will be most gratefull, thanks pete
I know of no single source, Pete. The best book that I have is by Howard Cole. It relates primarily to uniforms, but the signs were generally similar. Maybe they're available on library loan ?
It may though be a post-war sign. I don't have this second book :-
I think Rob, who runs the military Norton site in the Netherlands, might be your best bet. If the website doesn't have the information you seek, you can always email Rob. He's knowledgable and helpful. Website link: https://www.wdnorton.nl/Contents_page.htm
