Lucas headlamp emblem mounting ring

Forums

My 61 model 50 needs a new mount for the plastic Lucas emblem on top.  The club sent a replacement emblem but no ally ring to fit it with.  The original got mashed when removing for paint.

I had a bit of a hunt on the web but no luck.  If they are unobtainable has anyone made an alternative.  Mine was a double flanged top hat affair which looks like it was crimped into place.   Thanks

Hi Jon. I’ve been looking for the same thing for a long time. The closest I got was a new badge fitted into a rim but the seller wanted £25 for them so I decided not to bother. I’d thought about sticking an aluminium washer over the rim of the badge then using silicon to hold the badge with attached washer into the headlamp shell. The badge would be fitted from the outside of the shell so that the aluminium washer sat on top of the shell.

It’s just an idea that probably needs a couple of attempts and refinements.

Let me know if you come up with a fix.

Regards

Tony

...Yes i have dug a little deeper and also found a seller who will provided the ring with a "medallion" at £40.

I have started to come up with look alike solutions which would give the same appearance:

1st glue it in from the underside. and silicone the top edge to seal.

2nd was to turn a small aluminium dish to sit it in and bond to the underside of the shell then turn a separate aluminium ring to cover the exterior edge.

3rd  was to fold some thin aluminium into a channel then ease it into a circle to replicate the  original although it will not be a full circle.

4th Fit it in a mini rubber grommet strip.

I am baffled as to how they were fitted originally as I could see no way of removing it without  deforming.

I'm erring to  2nd solution if i'm brave enough

Cheers

Jon

I have that problem with no solution as yet!  How on earth DID they get it into the headlamp in the first place?  I dismantled mine with the tried and tested method using a half inch cold chisel and 2lb lump hammer - so that can't be the problem. (LOL!)  I have a nice new repro of the medallion, but will have to come up with a Baldrick "Cunning Plan" to fit it!  Somewhere I should have the mangled remains of the aluminium ring to use as a pattern - yeah right!
