Boyer-Bransden magnet carrier removal

Forums

I was pleased to find my Electra had Boyer-Bransden electronic ignition but I need to get the magnet carrier off and don't have a bolt to extract it with. I've got 5/16" diameter 20, 22, and 26 TPI screws or bolts that seem to start but stop after a few threads. Does anyone know what the thread is in the B-B part?

Everything I’ve read (so far) says the magnet plate is internally threaded 5/16 unf - I haven’t got anything that size so I can t confirm, sorry! Good luck - Bruce

Once the centre bolt is out the Boyer part is purely held in by the taper, give it a tap with 'ammer, it falls off!

As Al says above (and the same is true for the original ATD unit) - unscrew the centre bolt a couple of turns and tap down sharply on the head of the bolt - the taper will release.

If tapping it sharply frightens you - then there is a special tool for releasing the ATD unit on a Commando, which is Lucas - but it works the same on Wipac. Here is a picture from Andover Norton website. (It may need shortening - looks quite long?). I'm guessing that the Boyer internal thread matches....Advance/retard extractor
