Just a quick message regarding taxing a older bike that has been off road a lot of years ,it had unlicensed vehicle in the taxation section of the current v5c. I looked online a few weeks back and realised I had to use the post office service to change to historic vehicle in the taxation class , I filled in a mot except form and went at the end of may , the post office could not proceed and gave me a dvlc number to ring , this was a automated service that explained due to the covid crisis this service was not available to tax the bike unless I was a key worker in which case ring another number, it then said use the website.
A friend told me to go pay to tax the vehicle and dvlc would refund when they are back to normal so I went the post office today [ same counter same server] and she processed the tax and change to historic all ok giving a receipt for tax and sending the v5c to be changed all without paying so it seems that the dvlc has unlocked its system . just a note incase anybody else in the same situation .
As I posted in another DVLA thread
3rd June, took 3 V5C's, MOT Exempt forms, Ins Certs to post office. Took longer to queue to get in (5 mins) than it did to walk out with 3 receipts to say bikes were 'taxed'. 2 bikes 'Historic' for 1st time, Historic Norton had been on SORN. Absolutely no issues whatsoever as, to be honest I expected. Scanning bar codes seemed to do everything. PO clerk didn't even look at the MOT exempt forms.

Age related registration number
I don't suppose the Post Office could give me an Age related registration number for my bike over the counter ?
I don't think that the application can be made on-line ?
If not, does anyone know when the DVLA will be back in action again ?
I have a pre-war bike that has recently returned from overseas and that has never been registered in the UK

MOT?
I am in a similar position to David [above]. Having recently purchased a 1955 model that was re-imported in 2005 it seems that my new motorcycle has never had an MOT.
My age-related registration was achieved due to the work of the Singles Officer at NOC, presumably in 2005. I have 3 numbers first and then 3 letters; original registrations from the period seem to be the opposite way around.

historic tax class
last month I got a bike reclassified as historic: took V112 ( MOT exemption form) to post office, with V5. Luckily one lady knew that it could be taxed ( AT ZERO RATE) then and there, and gave me the till receipt as proof, and THEN they sent off V5, which came back ,done, in about 2 weeks... result.

Five years ago when I bought my Dommie I duly filled in the V5 change of ownership slip and sent it off, no problem. When I got the new V5 back I was informed that the bike had never had an MOT and that I would have to either get an MOT or declare it SORN, again no problem. Then I get what can only be described as a snotty letter threatening me with a fine and worse, threatening the PO with a fine and back tax charges, even though it had been declared SORN for quite a few years, oh dear. So on the phone to Swansea to ask what was all this about. The very nice lady I spoke to (Blodwyn I think) explained that the threatening letter I had received was sent in error and apologised for causing distress etc. She then went on to say that as the bike was coming up to the qualifying date I wouldn't need an MOT etc and when the SORN ran out I should change the class to Historic on the V5 and fill in the form to exclude it from MOT. Just goes to show that the DVLA can sometimes be helpful.
