I want to ride to work tomorrow and I can't find my manual. I suppose I could clean my hell hole of a shop but it's easier to ask here for help.
How do I set the ignition timing on my 61 ES2? The ignition timing chain was off so I need to start from the very beginning. I seem to recall that the process involves measuring the position of the piston rather than the crankshaft.
Does it have a Magneto?

It's a cool model that's…
It's a coil model that's been converted to magneto. Thanks, I think I have what I need now.

If it's a magneto model the ignition is set so that the points start to open at 5/8 ths inch before Top Dead Centre, with ignition set to full advance.
I don't know what the setting is for a coil equipped one but can't see it being dramatically different.
