Jubilee Head Gasket

Would a cylinder head gasket for a 1959 to 1966 Jubilee work on an Electra?

The Jubilee is a 60mm bore while the Electra is 66mm so I would be suprised if they did.

Having said that the spares shop is showing the same part number of both, albut the split gasket type in composite while the dedicated one for the Electra is a solid copper gasket and one piece.

John,

Last year in June you asked about solid head gaskets. The answer to your question on Jubilee head gaskets came up in the thread. Search 'Electra head gasket' on this site and it comes up.

People appear slow to answer your requests for advice, but when we've already given it to you ….

Jack, I have never owned an Electra so I'm not an expert but I remember a thread on this forum last year where several knowledgeable Electra owners said that the Jubilee head gasket will fit an Electra.   This is because the early Jubilee's had a spigot at the top of the barrel which fitted in to a groove machined into the cylinder head.  The Jubilee head gasket therefore goes round the outside of the spigot and is significantly wider than the 60mm cylinder bore.   The Electra doesn't have that spigot and informed opinion was that by happy chance the Jubilee cylinder head gasket is exactly the right size to fit the Electra and is reflected in them sharing the same part number.   A search back through 2019's forum discussions should find the definitive advice!   As for the choice between individual composite and solid copper in my humble opinion after using both it is a matter of personal preference with pros and cons for both but do remember to check that the stud holes all line up before assembly and anneal the solid copper gasket.     Hope that helps.

Jack, I've just checked back - as Peter says above that advice is in reply to your post about 'Solid Head Gaskets' dated 20/06/19.    Composite Jubilee and solid copper Electra head gaskets are available at very modest cost from NOC shop.

I sincerely apologize.  I totally forgot about the response to my earlier post that included an answer to my latest post on head gaskets.  (It seems I'm prone to do such things these days.  Age is a bitch at times.)

The question has come up because I still have an oil leak on my Electra at the from fin area of my right cylinder after replacing the head gasket and doing all the recommended things recommended to stop valve cover oil leaks.  I have come across another right side head and was planning to replace my current one if I could locate the right head gasket.  Since the Electra ones seem unobtainable I thought I'd ask about the Jubilee/Navigator ones.  Just a little "Old Timers" brain fade I guess.
