Hi I am new to Norton and have just acquired a 1949 model 18 rigid fitted with a 1958 ES2 motor. At some time this engine was removed and various modifications made to the frame to accommodate a different engine. I would like to return the frame to standard spec. I have been unable to find a drawing of the rigid frame online and wondered if someone on this site could kindly point me in the right direction. Failing that is there a member willing to take pictures/ dimension of their frame? Many thanks

Thankyou for that, I am hoping to find a drawing like that but with dimensions added. In the first instance I need to know the diameter of the seat tube which runs between the gearbox and engine
if anyone could please confirm that, thanks

I have a 1950 ES 2 w/ plunger chassis - I am assuming ( but not certain ) that the seat tube would be the same - I can measure it if you like . Let me know -

Yes please Richard. My original tube has been cut out and replaced with a stub of 1" diameter but it looks to me that the original was slightly larger, maybe 1 1/16"? Also if possible could you please measure the distance apart of the two lugs which locate the engine/gearbox plates? Many thanks for your help,
Andy

Hi Andy -
Difficult to get really accurate measurements - not much room to get calipers in squarely but it looks like 1 1/4” diameter for seat tube.
Even more difficult for distance between lugs - I assume you mean distance between lug on front downtube and lug on seat tube - if this is what you mean the measurement appears to be 14 9/16” between centers. Hope this helps.

Very inaccessible, but 1+1/4" seems to be correct for 1937 rigid 16H.

Yes looking at it again I am sure that you are both right at 1 1/4". On my frame the tube has been removed and heavily painted over. The hole that was left that I measured at approx. 1 1/16" was in fact the inside diameter of the 1 1/4" original tube that had been left in the lug, the paint having covered up any witness. Thanks to you both

See attached........Rigid frame drawing but no idea which year or model. A similar drawing can be found on the Andover Norton Spares Site. Sign into the spares page and click on Browse by Model. Then go for Singles and pre-Featherbed. Scroll down to the drawing which is useful because it numbers and names the parts. Some are available from A/N themselves but not many.
