hi i seem to have 2 different cranked top nut spanners, one fits my bike 7/16w, the other has raised letters (gearbox top nut) & is 9 1/16w , can anyone explain are they both norton ive sent an atatchment, thanks pete
As far as I'm aware, the marked spanner was introduced at some point post-war. What year is your bike ? One fits the reduced hex. nut as fitted to the WD16H and I believe earlier and the other fits the later straight hex... I may have an example of each but it would take a lot of oily rummaging to find them. The photo below is not the clearest that I've ever taken but you should be able to see the reduced hexagon with the rounded shoulder. Later nuts were simply a straight (larger) hexagon.
hi my bike is dated 1940 the smaller & lighter spanner fits my bike, i left an atatchment with my question showing both spanners,i am now satisfied the top bolt &nut are correct for my bike thanks for your information, kind regards pete
I would think that any tools made in the war years would have been quickly made and thus a little more crude in the making.
We're talking R.T. Shelley here. Some of their tools were a little clumsy but they didn't know how to make bad quality.
