Anyone tell me what top/bottom shock bushes the original 1956 Wideline frame had? I have a 1956 frame that seems to have 3/8 top bush and 5/16 bottom.
Also did they have 11.9' for 12.9' inch units as standard? Current set it 12.9'
The holes in the frame are really elongated and will need repair so just trying to judge whether to go 5/16 or 3/8.
Any recommendations for frame repair work would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

That does help a great deal so thanks Dick. Good to understand the original was 5/16". When I have the elongated holes put right I'll set them up with the original size.
I want going mad when I was comparing years with available shock absorber mount sizes :)
Thanks again.

Hi Alistair,
My 99 was first registered 3rd ofJanuary 1957 so was obviously built in 1956. It was fitted with Armstrong shock absorbers even though 1957 changed to Girling. One shock was stamped 1956 and the other 1955 so they were obviously using up old stock.
Your 1956 would be originally Armstrong’s also so have been exchanged somewhere down the line. Mine have 5/16” bushes both ends and are 12,9” centres.
The top bolt passes through the frame, top shocker bush, then the tapered spacer and finally the rear mudguard so all your corresponding holes must have been opened out at some time.
If you are replacing the shocks it isn’t difficult to swap the spacer bush at the top by removing those from your existing units, they are just a push fit into the rubber bung but could be very tight if they have corroded.
Hope this helps,
Regards
Dick
