Wideline featherbed frame number

Forums

Hi, I have an 88 which I am restoring. The problem I have is that at some point a 6mm dia hole has been drilled in the frame gusset and has removed the last digit in the vertical set of frame numbers. The engine is not matching so no help with the numbering. I will need to apply for an age related registration. Will the loss of the last digit affect that.? Anyone else who has had similar problems or can offer advice who be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill.

You have 1 in 10 possible answers, you had best contact the Twin dating officer with all the info you have ie any dealer decals or history such as old tax disc's etc and hopefully it will narrow it down to 1 of the 10, if not then you are snookered.

Can you not just apply for a registration with the number you have? Why would DVLA check if it has enough digits? If you did manage to find out the last digit, what could you do? Weld up the hole and re-stamp?

Unless you want a Q plate plus an inspection to modern standards then you need a dating cert, any DVLA registered dating service is not going to issue a dating cert on an incomplete number and risk losing DVLA registration.
