WD40

Forums

Hello, i used to spray my bike with ACF50 which is good stuff just to protect the electrics / frame ect . with the ACF being a bit on the expensive side i used WD40 this time .6 months or so later i thought i would give the bike a wipe over on attempting to wipe the WD40 off it seems to have had an effect on the frame paint theres a film on the surface you cant rub off some of the paint comes off with it when you do . not saying the paint on the bike is a professional job. its just something i observed and wondered if anyone else has noticed a change in the WD40. i cant say i have seen it happen before on anything else i have sprayed it on in the past just wondering.

WD40 isn't a rust preventative but is a water displacing fluid (the clue is in the name....). It does contain paraffin which can act as a solvent on some paints.

I use GT85 as a general purpose lubricant and rust discourager (not preventative) and haven't noticed it having any effect on paintwork.
