Toolbox for prewar Inter.

Forums

Every road bike needs a toolbox, but although they were an option my Inter didn't even have the brackets. So I'm fitting an Indian one. A few issues of course.

The WD 15H boxes are 4 1/4 inches wide, but prewar boxes were 3 inches. So the box as it comes sticks out to far and looks ugly, and also hits the silencer. Set further in and it hits the mudguard.

So it was a jigsaw cut right round, and a couple of slots in opposite corners. Overlap and interlock, and three 4.9mm pop rivets on each edge. Bend up steel u-clips, and protect the frame with thin sheet rubber. The rear bottom one is a proprietary P-clip, again packed with rubber.

Now a bit of body filler to cover the only visible joint ( at the rear), paint, and make sure all the nuts have thread lock when reassembling.

And replace that retaining screw with a suitcase latch when I find the one I have squirreled away.
