Thrust pin wear on Clutch outer plate on ES2

Forums

RE; wear on my 1951 ES2 clutch outer plate.

My Thrust Pin ( mushroom) has worn the outer clutch plate.

The wear is about .016" deep

is this a problem ?

Should I leave it ??

Both plate and thrust Pin (mushroom) have plenty of metal left. IF this is normal amount wear then the plate should give me another 100 years of hard use.(grin)

Should I grind it level and eliminate the deep circle ?

Any input would be gratefully received !

Thanks

1/ Have you got the recommended 1/8'' to 3/16'' free play at the gearbox cable end? It is very easy to over adjust the worm drive.

2/ you can put a smear of MoS2 or Copper based grease on the contacting area.

3/ The late Francis Beart modified his outer plates to incorporate a thrust race . Has anyone tried this mod?

thanks Charles

1/ yes I have it adjusted properly per the manual but no doubt it was setup wrong at least once over the past 65 years...so the wear pattern is there now

2/ would the grease stay there for long ? Wouldn't it be dispersed ...not much oil in there but still some splash going on in the so-called Oil bath ?

my question is does this matter ? Should I polish the wear out or just leave it be ?

Thanks, Grant

More important, does the groove run true to the outer clutch plate contact area. It would appear that the push rod has seized onto the mushroom lifter and/or the actuator arm on the lifter wormdue to lack of lube and over tightness, causing it to spin.
