Starter motor from Norvil & powder coating frame

Forums

I am visiting the U.K. in October and thinking of purchasing the above starter motor- at around 350 quid- it is a bit pricey. I am keen for some feedback on the item- is it as good asNorvil advertise. PLus my other issue- is that I wish to paint the frame on my Mk 111, but I have read that one needs to be very careful when having frame powder coated. Where the isolastics come in contact with the frame - then the area on the frame needs to be of bare metal- as problems will occur later with the engine mounting bolts shearing off- if the powder coat is not removed. I read the article from the OLD BRITS website. Talking to people here inW.Australia and a Norton guru here - they have had no problems with powder coating their frames and they do not remove any coating back to bare metal. Yet talking to mate who has Harley's and He said that Harley recommend removing coating and frame back to bare metal - where the engine bolts/mounting are - due to bolts working loose and shearing off. Sorry to be long winded but be appreciated for some constructive response. bill

Bill, where parts, such as engine mountings, are bolted to a powder coated frame there is a strong possibility that the powder coating will crack and disintegrate leaving the mounting loose. These words come from P&M Motorcycles and they will not powder coat frames on any of their bikes. I should add they mostly do race machines but I think it is sound advice for any bike.
