Square ignition assimilator

Forums

Hi folks

I have the '74 mk2. I'm asking if anyone could tell me how is the small, black, square assimilator with yellow, red and black wires attached to it, wired into the bike; i.e. what coloured wires in the harness do they connect to ,please?

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Thank you for posting that nice clear colour diagram; I've wired it in but still doesn't light up the warning light.

If you could take it apart and look inside you would not be surprised that it doesn't work. They are pretty crude which is probably why it doesn't work. There are better alternatives available. Alan Osbourn does a charging monitor and other places do similar things.

I also had the problem of the ignition light not lighting up. After a few miles it started behaving properly but still occasionally refuses. Charging is always OK, though, as is the spark.

Hi folks, I've made a bit of progress but it's still a mystery. Ignition on ,engine off, all 3 wires connected to the assimilator in proper order ,warning light comes on for 10 secs then goes out. Switch off then on ,no light. Take off the alternator green/yellow wire ,switch on ,light comes on but as soon as i put that AL wire on ,light goes out. !!

My Mk3 850 assimilator does the same - sometimes works normally with red light coming on when ignition switched on then goes out when engine fires up (and flickers a bit if enginetickover revs get too slow),while other times red warning light doesn't come on at all when ignition switched on.

Earlier round metal case assimilator fitted to 750 and early 850 Commandos seemed to work better. Have this one on my Mk1a 850 which has never given trouble in 53 years (with original warning light bulb still in place) !
