Slimline dommie frame number

Forums

I have a slimline dommie with frame no. R14 85684 .

Is there a number missing as I reckon it should be a 6 -figure number ??

It is with an 88 engine. No. 97129 122.

I think the frame is around 1960.

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Have a look at http://www.bmh.com.au/norton/index.php?id=modelnum which will shed some light on your query. R14 indicates a 1960 model 99. There are sufficient numbers for that year, but 1960 only starts at 87038, but the next column - NOC - would cover it. I'm afraid I don't know why there are two numbers.

My 1960 slimline 99 frame no is 85787. It was built in October 1959 for the 1960 season and was registered on 15/12/59. Yours must be one of the very first slimline frames. Your engine is from a later 88.

Hello I am afraid to say this data is out of date and does not reflect the true number years No one within the NOC has even tried to tackleis discrepancy But that I have real evidence that Nortons where number earlier than was thought in their respective years And actual Build data are Not reflected in Factory records what the factory records tell you is the dispatch data or export data in which ever the case maybe and Norton has a rule of thumb worked from September to Septemberto followingyear for their new models yours anna j

FYI my 1960 slimline 99 (matching frame & engine numbers) is 14 870**, which apparently dates from 4th January, 1960 and was shipped to Benoni in South Africa.

There is no "R" on the crankcase, but I understand that it was not unusual for this year indicator to be missing. I think that 1960 was the last year that a letter was used to indicate year?????

HTH.
