Rock hard front forks - Dommie 99 DL

Forums

Hi as my bike was rebuilt with an Avonaire fairing, my front forks are very hard - side car weight
springs were added and without the fairing, it tends to crash around on our bumpy potholed roads.

I've read in the manual that for a softer ride, I might try 10w oil rather than the 20.

Would this be a viable trial or should I just bite the bullet and fit softer possibly the progressive fork springs?

Its unlikely I'll ever use the fairing after all.  However I'm touching 17 stone fully kitted (thats my excuse anyway).

thanks

I had an Avonaire on my DL. Ok in winter but too heavy otherwise . I fitted progressive springs (RGM) and longer bushes etc. forks a bit stiffer than ideal but not had chance to play with oils Covenant mods and longer bushes stopped crashing at end of travel . If local a group is meeting at flower farm cafe tomorrow at midday . Bikes inc a DL .

I'm edging towards the spring, as I ploughed through the rebuild notes and the even heavier springs were found to be too light with the fairing on, so I'm assuming the springs they ended up going with are 2 steel poles!!!
