Reynolds frame numbers

Forums

The date of first registration of my Dommie 99 is January 1956. I would expect the Reynold frame number stamped into the head-steady bracket at the back of the frame steering head, which supposedly indicates the month and year of frame manufacture, to be something like 12/55 or 1/56. Mine however looks like 16/55. Can anyone suggest how that fits into the Reynoldâs system, or was it just an exceptionally long year ?

Thanks Anna, that's probably the logical explanation, it is just that I thought the Reynold's date stamp on the head gusset was always 3 or 4 digits showing month and year, not the actual day of the month.

Certainly my 1960 model frame has 4 digits 10 59 if I remember (showing fairly accurately when slimline production started).

Thanks Gordon, yours must be one of the first slimlines. The Reynolds numbering system would seem to be something of a hotchpotch as I also have a 1960 Model 50, one of the last widelines, whichleft the factory earlyJanuary 1960, R13 872xx. Since my initial post I have scraped away the paint to try to read the gusset number on this.Although not as clear as on my 56 Dommie, the numbersseem to support Anna's theory, albeit in a rather bizarre format, reading from the headstock month/year/day, in my case I think 3rd September 1959 (it was a Thursday !).
