Rev Counter Gearbox - Leaking Oil

Forums

Have any other owners also experienced buying expensive replacement parts only to find they are not worth the money paid? Completely rubbishing the saying that 'you get what you pay for'.

Last year I splashed out on a complete set of clocks, drive cables and gearbox drives for my 650 Dominator. Despite paying over £500 for this gear, the speedometer has needed 3 repairs, the tachometer won't go above 4000rpm and its drive gearbox has leaked oil from day one.

The final straw to this heap of junk being the blanking plug blowing out of the rev counter gearbox while on my way to join the crowd riding down to Sammy Millers last Saturday. It dumped so much oil over the side of my bike I could hardly change gear, keep my foot on the rearsets or even start the engine after stopping at Loomies Cafe.

I have attached a few photos of this gearbox to show what a very sad piece of engineering has taken place. My mobile oil leak is the red 650. Max and Paul are guarding the puddles. I cannot believe there is no seal to hold back excess oil vapour from the timing cover.

Suggestions for a cure welcome.
