Replacement rocker oil feed pipe required

Forums

I need to replace the rocker oil feed pipe on my 1959 Model 50. The current copper pipe has been pinched and is restricting the flow.

Is there anyone who sells a replacement part ? So far I have had no joy from the normal spared outlets. I would be happy to consider braided stainless, or even plastic pipe, but would prefer the original look of the copper pipe.

All suggestions welcome.

Are you sure it hasn't been pinched deliberately to reduce the flow? There are a few threads noting excess oil flow to the rockers.

Copper pipe is dead easy to solder using flux and solder from any plumbers merchant. your gas hob is hot enough. small bore copper pipe is availiable for gas supply again from a decent plumbers merchant or E bay.

A very long time ago, I noticed that my 99 started to broadside on a curvy road. Stopped at a small petrol station to check. Rocker feed copper tube broken so oil was supplied to the rear wheel instead of going up to the head. Bought a piece of rubber fuel line and two jubilee clips. Yes you could buy things like that at a petrol station then. Since that day, I have no confidence in copper oil and fuel lines.

I am assuming that your Model 50 rocker feed is routed the same way as my 1950 ES2 - bled off the the the oil return between the junction tube and the oil tank then rising to run alongside the top frame tube behind the fuel tank and then down to the banjo on the rocker box. You should not have any problems redoing this with copper tube . If you silver solder the tube into the banjo fittings the joint will be fine - I've had no problems with mine for several years/and 3 thousand miles.

To dampen out vibration I slit a piece of rubber tubing with an I.D. To match the O.D. Of the copper tube and placed it around the copper where it runs behind the tank and cannot be seen.

Obviously make certain both the the O.D. ( to fit the female receptacle on the banjos) and the I.D .

( for proper oil pressure) of the copper tube are correct .

Cheers - Richard
