Registering a special

Hello, new member and first post so hopefully right forum.

I have the chance to buy a P11 frame and an N15CS crashed bike, both dated 1967. My plan is to take engine gearbox, wheels and forks from the N15 and build them into the P11 frame. Engine and gearbox are the same for both models, 750 Norton with AMC primary but, the N15 forks and hubs are Norton whereas the P11s are AMC. I am obviously not trying to build a P11 but should make a nice Norton special.

So …… my question, what what are my chances of getting the bike registered as a 1967 Norton with the support of the clubs NOC3 scheme, that is will the clubs dating officer recognises this as an in period Norton for registration under the DVLAs Reconstructed Classic Scheme

Thanks Richard

Hi Richard, if you click on "Records" on the homepage of this site, the procedure is explained. You will need the assistance of the NOC records service in obtaining a registration. Your specific query may be referred to our Twin Records Officer, Paul Nichols, by email to: twinrecords@nortonownersclub.org.

With regard to any technical advice required we have an excellent officer, Anthony Curzon who is the lead expert on these models. He can be contacted by email to: hybrids@nortonownersclub.org

Welcome to the Club, you are in the right place to get your project up and running.

... have tightened up recently. The key is to get a dating letter from the NOC (or other authorised body such as the VMCC). I recently did this for my Tri-Greeves - what I did was to assemble the bike as a Greeves with a (non-original) Villiers engine to get the letter from the GRA - which noted the engine change - the V5C followed in a couple of weeks. I then fitted the Triumph engine and notified DVLA of a change of engine capacity and engine number - that was straightforward.

I would contact the registration officer to see whether you need NOC2 or NOC3. My view it would be NOC2 but they will know.
